Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am a 23-year-old, female weighing 196 lbs with a height of 5.8 feet. I have a lot of pimples breakout on my chin and cheeks area. For the solution, I bought 2% Salicylic Acid Serum and have been using it for a month now once a day. For protection from UV rays, I apply sunscreen cream with SPF 24 after applying the serum. But I have not noticed an improvement in my facial skin so far. Sometimes the pimple breakouts are too much to bear. My skin type is sensitive. Please suggest some remedies and effective routine products for this situation.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and understand your concern. Acne is quite common during this age group due to multiple causes including hormonal. It reduces over time. I suggest you follow the following:
1. Stay calm and cool.
2. Avoid physical and mental stress.
3. Treat dandruff if any with anti-dandruff lotions or shampoo like Ketoconazole.
4. As dandruff can block the glands and increase acne, wash your face frequently at least two to three times in a day.
5. You can use any gentle cleanser of your comfort (like Cetaphil), these help in clearing the openings of ducts of sebaceous glands.
Please check and observe if acne increases with the intake of a high carbohydrate or fatty diet. If so avoid or at least have control of such foods. You can initially try topical Adapalene gel at night after face wash. You can apply it on the chin and cheek areas. Initially, there may be some dryness, irritation, or peeling of the skin. You can apply moisturizing lotion or sunscreen lotion in the morning if required. Also, apply Clindamycin gel in the morning. Follow this for a few days to weeks. If it worsens or does not get controlled you can then consult your dermatologist for further examination and management.
I hope I have cleared all your doubts. Thank you.
