Hi doctor,
My child was diagnosed with amblyopia, having unaided visual acuity of R 6/60 and L 6/6 after complaining of blurry vision for a few weeks. Please provide me with guidance.
Hi,
I appreciate that you have chosen icliniq.com for your medical needs.
I am here to give you the best care possible.
I am sure the amblyopia has been present since her early childhood. Or is it a new onset? Can you remember any incidents of hurt or trauma to her head or eyes during her early childhood or recently? Your prescription is correct. Give her the corrective spectacles and ensure she uses them regularly. Along with that, incorporate near work activities such as writing and drawing exercises daily, focusing on the weak eye, and patching the normal eye for 2 hours daily. If done consistently, there may be improvement until the age of 12. Keep trying. Please share if you have any other prescriptions or if there are any other tests needed.
I hope you are satisfied with my answer. For further queries, you can consult me at icliniq.
Thank you.
Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
Thank you again for your time; I greatly appreciate it.
It is a new onset. Is 6/60 considered blind? And is it reversible?
Hi,
Glad to have you back!
I am here to help you get the best medical advice.
I understand your concern.
6/60 is classified as low vision, while blindness is considered to be less than 3/60. Yes, it is reversible, with the maximum potential for improvement lasting until 8 years. However, studies have indicated that it can be reversible up until 12 years or more, thanks to the plasticity of neurons at young ages. You must try the amblyopia exercises with utmost regularity and maintain high hopes.
I hope you are satisfied with my answer. For further queries, you can consult me at icliniq.
Thank you.
