Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Is it fine to take Escitalopram 20 mg, Buspirone 7.5 mg Aripiprazole 2 mg? Why is my doctor pressing all of these on high doses? Would there be a reason? Escitalopram makes me apathetic but does help with depression. However, it raises anxiety. Buspirone worsens depression, causes tiredness, nausea, stomach ache, and makes me sluggish. But helps with anxiety. It makes me unmotivated, and have a ringing sound in my ear. I was recently prescribed Aripiprazole, because of violent outbursts I get, and it is doing well actually, but instead of taking these three, is there just a single one I can take? Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Your first query consult is on us!

Thank you for taking help from a psychiatrist. I can understand your problem and situation. Your psychiatrist may have given you medications due to your symptoms. But I need more details, like the duration of your illness and the severity of your symptoms, to suggest only one medication. There is no combination of the above medications. You can take any antacid for gastric problems that may arise due to the medication. You can wait for at least four weeks to get the full effect of one medication and then either increase the dose or add another medication and wait for another four weeks for the full effect. It is fine to take all the above medications together. There will be no problem. You should also try to follow a healthy lifestyle to deal with your depression. It is a non-pharmacological management of depression that will help you.

1. Exercising daily, like walking for 30 to 45 minutes.

2. Practice meditation for 20 minutes daily. I suggest you sit in a comfortable position and try to concentrate on your normal breathing. Do not stop or force yourself to stop your thoughts. It will help you to relax.

3. Try eating healthy home-cooked foods. I suggest eating small quantities of food but increasing the frequency.

4. You must drink enough water.

5. You should spend quality time with friends and family daily.

6. You should spend time on creative hobbies like reading good books, writing journals, painting, drawing, and learning new skills or language or musical instruments.

7. You should get at least seven to eight hours of sleep daily.

8. You must avoid tobacco, alcohol, or any other substance abuse.

I hope that you get your answer.

Please let me know if you have further queries.

Thank you.
