Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I am 18 years old. I have irregular periods. I do not get my periods usually. It occurs once every six months and varies sometimes. Now, I have had my periods in the first week, and it has been almost 23 days, and I am still having heavy periods with a lot of blood clots.
Please help.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
Period is the shedding of part of the endometrial lining (part of the inner lining of the uterus). It grows every month and ideally sheds off every month. The longer the interval between your period, the more the growth. The more the growth, the heavier your period when it comes. So, every lady should induce their period every six weeks if a spontaneous period has not started to avoid situations like this. The cause of the delayed period ranges from PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome), obesity, and hypothyroidism, among others. You would need to do some tests to determine the likely cause. For now, I suggest you take a tablet of Lysteda (Tranexamic acid) 500 mg orally once in eight hours for three days.
I hope this answers your query.
Revert in case of queries.
Regards.
