Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had a mole on my neck, and I got it operated. But after the stitches opened, I got swelling in that mole. What is it, and how can I treat it?

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I went through your query.

After a mole is removed, it is common to experience some swelling, redness, or tenderness around the surgical site. This is a normal part of the healing process and should gradually improve over time.

However, if you are experiencing significant swelling or other symptoms, such as pain, drainage, or fever, you may have an infection or other complications. In this case, you should contact your healthcare provider for further evaluation and treatment.

To help manage swelling and promote healing, I suggest you try the following:

1. Keep the surgical site clean and dry: Gently wash the area with soap and water and pat it dry with a clean towel. Avoid soaking the area in water, such as during baths or swimming.

2. Apply a cold compress: Apply a cold compress to the area for ten minutes at a time, several times a day, to help reduce swelling and pain.

3. Take over-the-counter pain relievers: If you are experiencing pain, you can take over-the-counter pain relievers, such as Ibuprofen or Acetaminophen, as directed on the label.

4. Protect the area from the sun: If the surgical site is on an area of your body that is exposed to the sun, use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF (sun protection factor) of at least 30 to protect the area from further damage.

5. Follow your healthcare provider's instructions: If your healthcare provider provided you with specific instructions on how to care for the surgical site, be sure to follow them carefully to help ensure proper healing.

If you are concerned about the swelling or have any other questions or concerns, I would recommend contacting your healthcare provider for further advice. They can provide more detailed information about your specific condition and help you develop a personalized treatment plan.

Hope it helps.

Thanks and regards.
