Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 34-year-old male who recently had unprotected sex with a commercial sex worker during a business trip. I have been experiencing symptoms like rashes in my mouth and itching with a rash on my penis. I am concerned that these could be signs of HIV. Can you please provide information on the symptoms of HIV and whether these match my situation? Additionally, what tests are required to diagnose HIV, and what steps should I take if I suspect I may have the virus?

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

It seems like you are describing a situation involving a very high-risk exposure. I would suggest you do the following:

  1. For local application in the mouth, use Zytee lotion (choline salicylate and benzalkonium chloride) before meals twice a day, avoiding any intake for the next 30 minutes.
  2. For the genital area, you can apply Betnovate N (betamethasone-17-valerate, neomycin sulphate) or hydrocortisone ointment locally.
  3. Take one tablet of Montek LC (montelukast and levocetirizine) at night until required.
  4. Additionally, go for an STD (sexually transmitted disease) panel test, check for hepatitis B (HbsAg), and use a fourth-generation CMIA (chemiluminescent magnetic microparticle immunoassay) kit for HIV (human immunodeficiency) testing (both types one and two).

Note that no medicine is effective after 72 hours, meaning post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) is not an option. If the test results come back negative, it indicates no HIV infection, and you are considered safe. Moving forward, it is essential to prioritize safe practices and never engage in unprotected activities.

I hope this helps you.

Take care.
